Akademickie Centrum Kultury UG "Alternator" oraz Towarzystwo Edukacyjne "Wiedza Powszechna" z przyjemnością informuje, że dzięki pracy wolontariuszy Wolontariatu Europejskiego EVS (European Voluntering Service) goszczących i pracujących w ACK UG, Pani Christie Miedema oraz Pana Stefa Arensa, we współpracy z Kulturalnym Kolektywem UG zorganizowano cykl debat pod wspólnym tytułem
"Wiatr przemian - Winds of change" poświęconych 20-leciu przemian w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej.W ramach tego cyklu przewidziano
4 debaty poświęcone kolejno przemianom w Polsce, w Niemczech, w Czechosłowacji, na Bałkanach, na Ukrainie i na Białorusi.
Poszczególne debaty odbędą się w dniach:
5, 12, 19 i 26 maja 2009 r. (we wtorki) o godz.18.30 w sali Wydziału Filologicznego Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego przy ul. Wita Stwosza 55.Uczestnikami debaty będą przede wszystkim studenci zagraniczni (około 30 osób) oraz inne zaproszone osoby (razem około 40 uczestników).
Serdecznie zapraszamy do uczestnictwa w poszczególnych debatach.

Free entranceIn the last twenty years the countries East of the former Iron Curtain have found their ways towards freedom. At different moments and in different styles they have rid themselves of lack of democracy and dictatorships. Let's revive Poland's, Serbia's and Ukraine's successes and Belarus' continuing struggle for freedom.
There will be four lectures:1. Down with the wall: The revolutions of 1989.
2. Non-violence in a violent country: Overthrowing Milosevic in Yugoslavia 2000.
3. It's time: The Ukrainian Orange Revolution in 2004.
4. An incomplete Revolution: The Power of Lukashenka during the elections of 2006 and the current situation.

Bringing down the Wall: The revolutions of 1989The first lecture will be about the mostly non-violent revolutions which brought an end to communism in many Eastern European countries. The main focus will be on Poland. What better way is there to start retracing ways to freedom than to start where one is now? Barbara Powroźnik of the IPN (National History Institute) will give us an overview of the Polish events of 1989 in the context of the rest of Eastern Europe. After that the documentary The ways to the free world (2004) will be shown and there will be time for questions.
